Montgomery veterans give Salute to Deceased Veterans at the conclusion of the Memorial Day Program at the American Legion Post on Monday.
More than 700 names were read in the Roll Call of Deceased Veterans" by Ed Keogh, V.F. W. National Deputy Chief of Staff, Second District V.F.W. Commander and Commander V.F.W. Post 5340, and Corey Kotek, Commander American Legion Post 79 & Quartermaster V.F.W. Post 5340.

Command Chief Warrant Officer Brent Jensen of the Minnesota Army National Guard will be the main speaker on Memorial Day in the New Prague area on Monday, May 30. He will deliver his speech during ceremonies at the new Veterans Memorial along Main Street. It will be among several observations around the area on Memorial Day.

The Memorial Day 2022 recognition for fallen veterans will be held Monday, May 30 with a Mass at Most Holy Redeemer Church beginning at 8:15 a.m.
It will be followed by a parade beginning at 9 a.m. from the church parking lot to First Street, south to Elm Ave., and west to the Legion.
The program at the American Legion Post #79 begins at 9:30 a.m.
It is sponsored by the Montgomery American Legion Post 79, Montgomery Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5340, and the Montgomery Area Honor Guard.

Tri-City United High School held its commencement ceremonies on Friday night, where 120 Titans became alumni. The ceremony included songs by the band, choir, and the traditional tossing of the graduation caps.
Speeches were also given by three TCU graduates - Jamie Nelson, Lauren Houn, and Gabrielle Fisher who thanked parents, and teachers, reminisced about their high school years and spoke about the future.

FOX 9 Chief Meteorologist Ian Leonard, holding microphone, had an impromptu race with young fans during the Town Ball Tour at Veseli the evening of Thursday, May 26. During the busy evening FOX9 news anchors talked with current and former baseball players of the Veseli Warriors and featured the ballpark east of New Prague. There was also free ice cream and music by the Trouba Troubadours. The evening capped off with the Warriors taking on the Belle Plaine Tigers. Through the third weekend of play in the DRS Amateur Baseball League, every team has recorded at least one victory.
The Montgomery Mallards continue to hold the league lead with a 5-1 record. They were defeated by Elko, 11-3, Friday, May 20. Sunday, May 22 the Mallards downed St. Benedict, 7-1.

Robert Carlson, 82, Duluth, Minn., died Tuesday, May 17, in his home surrounded by his family..

Thomas J. Shriver, age 87, of Montgomery, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. 
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2022, from noon until 3 p.m. at Richter’s Woods Barn outside of Montgomery.

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Noah Stephens- Brown on May 6, 2022. This was unexpected and our family is devastated by the loss of our beloved son and brother. After overcoming brain cancer 4½ years ago, Noah died from bacterial meningitis brought on by complications from that brain surgery.

The Lonsdale City Council has scheduled a work session to be held prior to their regularly scheduled meeting on May 12 to discuss the current and future housing needs within the city.
Lonsdale City Administrator Joel Erickson said that staff was recently contacted by a builder regarding a potential housing project that would include market rate rental townhomes.
At this time, according to Erickson, there are no properties available that are currently zoned for multi-family housing.

The TCU Softball Team broke a seven-game losing streak with a decisive win over Mayer Lutheran on Thursday, May 5. The game was the first of the doubleheader at North Side Park. The Titans won 14-4 in the first game, but lost 4-5 in the second.
The win came on the heels of the team’s losses that week to Le Sueur-Henderson (LSH) last Tuesday.

Kindergartners learned about compassion, giving back, and how a group of dedicated volunteers are improving the lives of homeless people on Monday, April 25.
The students from Most Holy Redeemer School visited the self-titled “Bag Ladies” when they visited the American Legion, and learned how the almost all-female group creates sleeping mats from grocery store plastic bags.

The annual city-wide spring clean-up will be held on Saturday, May 14, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Public Works (Street Garage) at 305 Boulevard Ave. NW. Residents will be able to bring their items to the collection location.
Acceptable items include furniture, beds, couches, chairs, tables, lawn furniture, scrap metal, remodeling materials in small amounts, and miscellaneous junk.

Members of Tri-City United High School’s FFA hosted a Baby Animal Day at the Le Sueur County Fairgrounds in Le Center on Thursday, May 5. Students from TCU Elementary Schools in Le Center, Montgomery, and Lonsdale were bussed to the spring petting zoo event, which featured piglets, kittens, chicks, goats, calves, lambs, and more. The students were also treated to tractor-pulled hay wagon rides and popcorn (after sanitizing their hands).

The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the death of a 23-year-old male construction worker who was run over by a skid loader on Highway 99 Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred near the intersection of Highway 99 and 181st Street in Montgomery Township where the Minnesota Valley Electric Company/MVEC was working in the Electrical Power Line System.
