As a young teenager in 2020, Ella Schmiesing got her first taste of varsity swimming.

Now a Tri-City United (TCU) senior, she will be making her last appearance in a pool as a Titan at the Class A State Swimming and Diving Meet Friday, Nov. 14 at 10:30 a.m. and Saturday, Nov. 15 at Noon at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center at the University of Minnesota.

Preliminaries will be held Friday and finals on Saturday.

This will be Schmiesings’ fifth State Tournament appearance after winning two Section 1A Championships last weekend.

The record-breaking season for the Tri-City United (TCU) boys soccer team ended Tuesday, Oct. 21 with an 8-1 loss to Academy of Holy Angels (17-0-1 record) in the Class A State Tournament.

The Dakota-Rice-Scott League will have a slightly different look next summer when teams take the field and the St. Patrick Irish isn’t one of them.

The Irish, a Class A team, announced earlier this month they were leaving the DRS and joining the other Class A teams in the River Valley League. An announcement the team posted on social media noted the move puts the Irish in closer proximity with Class A RVL teams like Burnsville, Chanhassen, Chaska, Eagan, Prior Lake, Shakopee and Victoria.

The duo of Cristina Cruz and Lexie Berger placed fourth in the Section 1AA Doubles Tournament last week in Rochester.

Cruz and Berger were the No. 5 seed in the tourney and they split four matches.

In their opener, the Titan duo defeated Maisey Tormoen and Isabel Tix of Simley (6-0, 7-6.

In the quarterfinals, Cruz and Berger defeated No. 4 seed Carmen Puente and Hannah Shepherd of Faribault (6-0, 6-2).

In the semifinals, No. 8 seed Bella Reeck and Tori Thompson of Winona defeated the local players (6-3, 6-4). The Winona duo ended up placing 3rd overall.

The Titans boys soccer team couldn’t muster a win at the Tuesday, Oct. 21, state quarterfinals game in Shakopee against the Academy of the Holy Angels. 
 

A strong, cold west/northwest wind worked to their disadvantage in the first period and helped somewhat in their second period.

Despite the cold and windy conditions, a crowd of over 100 Titan fans showed up to support the hometown team and were very audible the whole game. 
 

Tri-City United Boys Soccer Team is hoping for further advancement Tuesday, Oct. 21, 5:30 p.m., in the Minnesota State High School League's Boys Soccer Class A State Tournament. The quarterfinal game is being held at the Shakopee West Middle School's Vaughan Field, 200 10th Avenue East.

Spectators should park on the east side of the stadium, entering along Spencer Street South, and enter at the main entrance to the field on the north side. Additional parking will be available in the middle school's parking lot directly to the north. 

Two big wins have propelled the Tri-City United (TCU) boys soccer team into the Section 2A Championship match.

The Titans (14-5-0) will play St. Peter (9-6-3) for the third time this season on Thursday, Oct. 16, at Austin for the right to advance to the Class A State Tournament.

TCU is 2-0 this season against the Saints, winning 3-2 in September and 5-0 in October.

The Titans advanced to the Championship after defeating Butterfield-Odin United, 12-1, Thursday, Oct. 9 and defeated No. 4 seed Albert Lea, 4-2, Saturday, Oct. 11.

Only six total Tri-City United (TCU) runners competed in the New Prague Cross Country Invitational Thursday, Sept. 25 at Cedar Lake Farm.

The top runner on the day was senior Grant Fitterer who placed 11th in 18:09 in the boys race.

Sophomore Gabriel Coryell placed 32nd in 19:32. Freshman Graysen Moon placed 37th in 20:32. Eighth grader Patrick Duchene placed 41st in 21:03.

TCU senior Ella Schmiesing highlighted her team’s dual meet Tuesday, Sept. 23, with a record-breaking performance.

Schmiesing, a multi-time All-State performer, broke her own pool and school record in the 100-yard butterfly, taking first in a best time of 59.26. She also won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.85.

The Titans placed second to New Prague, 95-66, in a Senior Night event.

Other first place performances were turned in by Lily Traxler in 1-meter diving with 191.55 points and Kaylee Rezac in the 500-yard freestyle in 6:04.88.

Three weeks ago the Tri-City United (TCU) girls soccer team suffered a 10-4 loss to St. Peter.

The Saints are an outstanding team and the Titans knew they would get another shot at their opponent to the west.

TUC faced St. Peter Thursday, Sept. 18 and played much better in a 4-1 loss.

Members of four area amateur baseball teams won’t be putting the spikes, bats and gloves away just yet now that their respective teams have won their way into the Minnesota Baseball Association’s State Tournament beginning this weekend.

Webster is going to state as District 5B’s No. 2 seed behind Jordan. The Brewers topped the Sox Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Mini Met.

Prior Lake’s Mudcats will take the district’s No. 3 seed to state thanks to a win over Union Hill Saturday.

Jordan topped Webster Saturday evening, 6-2, to earn District 3B's top seed to the Minnesota Baseball Association's upcoming state tournament.

Webster will take the district's No. 2 seed to state. Prior Lake topped Union Hill, 4-3, Saturday, Aug. 9, for 3B's No. 3 seed. The Bulldogs are the No. 4 seed.

After the Jordan-Webster game, the teams drafted players from other district teams for the state tournament.

Mallards remain hot, going 2-0 on the week with a three game win streak and winning four of the last five, before heading into an extended break over the 4th of July holiday. The Mallards are now 8-8 in DRS League action and 10-9 overall.
Montgomery Mallards 4, Waterville Indians 3
The Mallards traveled to Waterville Friday night for a non-league game against the Indians, scoring in the top of the 9th to leave town 4-3 winners.

Titans Branko Schoenbauer, Addison Mann, and Jacob Cihak, qualified individually, and the TCU trapshooting team have qualified for the Minnesota State High School League’s (MSHSL) State Clay Target Tournament on Friday, June 20, at the Minneapolis Gun Club in Credit River Township.

These are the basic results for the Minnesota State High School League AA Girls Track and Field Tournament Championship event results at St. Michael-Albertville High School for Tri-City United High School's competitors from Thursday, June 12.

A total of eight Tri-City United (TCU) girls track and field team have advanced to the Class AA State Meet, which will be held Wednesday, June 11 and Thursday, June 12 at St. Michael Albertville High School.
The Titans placed fifth in the Section 1AA Championship Saturday, May 31 and had many top performances. Northfield placed first with 139 points and they were followed by Byron (125), Winona (121.5), Stewartville (116), and TCU (96).
