Earle Robert Taylor, age 94 of Elysian, died on Friday, May 24, 2019 at the Janesville Nursing Home.

If you would have heard the scores of the WEM baseball team’s two games last week you might have thought they were playing slo-pitch softball.
The Bucs scored 39 runs in picking up a pair of wins, raising their overall record to 12-5. The Bucs defeated Kenyon-Wanamingo 23-2 Tuesday, May 14 and avenged an early loss to Maple River Thursday, May 16, routing the Eagles 16-0. 12-4 earlier this month. Both games lasted only five innings.

It came down to a pair of games Thursday to determine the Gopher Conference softball champion.
It also came down to two games to see if the WEM softball team could continue what no other team in Class A softball has done this year...not lose a game.
The Bucs came out and defeated Maple River, 3-0, behind a no-hitter by junior Trista Hering.
After downing the Eagles in Mapleton, WEM headed east to New Richland to battle the Panthers for the outright conference crown.

The 34th Annual Morristown Dam Days Celebration will begin with the coronation of Miss Morristown 2019 on Wednesday, May 29, at 7 p.m. in the Morristown Community Center.
Admission is two dollars and a Dam Days button. Dam Days buttons will be sold at the door.
Iszabela Lee, Miss Morristown 2018, will crown the 2019 Queen and share memories of her year as Miss Morristown.
Candidates will be judged on poise, personality, appearance, educational accomplishments, activities, community involvement and talent.

At the top of a gentle hill overlooking Hunt Lake, nestled along historically rich Dodd Road in rural Kilkenny, Dan and Ashley Reller decided to plant their dreams of owning their own vineyard and winery.
This weekend, after four years of hard work, the Rellers will share the fruits of their labor during a grand opening of their business, Vintage Escapes Winery and Vineyard, at 8950 Dodd Road. The tasting room will be open from noon until 9 p.m. on May 25.

The WEM softball team finished off a perfect 18-0 season Thursday, May 16 with a pair of Gopher Conference wins. The Bucs defeated Maple River and NRHEG to win the conference title. They are current ranked No. 2 in Class A and received the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Section 1A Softball Tourney. WEM will host the Glenville-Emmons vs. Lyle/Pacelli winner Tuesday, May 21 at 5 p.m. If the Bucs win, they will play at Todd Park in Austin Thursday, May 23 at 5 p.m. The winner of this game will play Tuesday, May 28 at 5 p.m., also in Austin.

Ray Storjohann, age 78, life long resident of Janesville, died Saturday morning, May 18, 2019 at the Janesville Nursing Home.
Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 4-7 PM on Wednesday, May 22, at Starkson & Steffel Funeral & Cremation Service ~ Arnoldt Chapel of Janesville.

Mary Jane Greising, age 90 of Waterville, died on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at the Benedictine Senior Living Center in St. Peter.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville, with Rev. Michael Ince officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Jenell (Nellie Jones) Amelia Johnson-Brule, 44, of Kilkenny, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly surrounded by her loved ones late Friday night, on May 10th, 2019. Nellie was born to Brad and JoAnn Johnson, on August 16th, 1974, in Devils Lake, North Dakota.
She enjoyed many activities and favorite hobbies including gardening, interior decorating, working on the farm, cooking, spending time down at the lake, and most importantly spending time with her three children, large family, and her loving fiancé.

Sometimes, you just need to laugh. 
I've been a mom for almost a decade now and have seen my kids do things I never knew were possible... like getting mastitis as a newborn, getting stuck in a chair, requiring "super" (fake) teeth because their baby teeth failed to grow in, having the backs of earrings grow INSIDE their earlobes... It's a never-ending list. 
I didn't know how little I knew until I became a mom.
And, honestly, after a rough day or two, I start to question myself.

Farrell L. Bandow, age 79, of Waterville, died Monday, May 6, 2019 at The Emeralds at Faribault.
Services will be held at the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault, on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Kristen Anderson, pastor of North Waseca Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Morristown, with military rites provided by American Legion Post 149 of Morristown.
Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the services on Friday.

Two sections of Highway 99 in Le Sueur and Rice Counties will be under construction beginning Monday, May 20 for resurfacing, drainage and safety improvements.
According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), Highway 99 from Highway 13 to Highway 21 in Rice County will be detoured to Highway 13 and Highway 21 on Monday, May 20 as crews begin replacing culverts. The detour will remain in place until project completion in October.

Jeff Jarvis has been interested in history all of his life. His love of local history has spun into a book about the Faribault Woolen Mills.
Jarvis, who grew up between the King Mill and Woolen Mill, always had a fascination with these structures.
The rural Morristown resident took his fascination to another level and wrote the book “YARNS,” Homespun Tales from Faribault Woolen Mills.
Jarvis was shopping at the Woolen Mill Store in 2010 and he spotted an employee photograph from 1925 which was hanging on the wall.

The Le Sueur County Pioneer Power Association hosted its annual Swap Meet at its showgrounds near Le Sueur Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 26-28.
More than 800 vendors were registered for the meet, which is considered one of the largest in the nation.
