Susan Marie Quiram, age 59 of Elysian, died as the result of injuries she sustained in an UTV accident south of Mapleton on the evening of Thursday, September 15, 2022.

Four local youth competed last week in the 2022 Minnesota Junior B.A.S.S. High School Fishing Championships by way of their performances throughout the conference season which was held this past summer.
This year’s event was held on the WhiteFish Chain of Lakes September 10 and 11.
The locals who competed were Myles and Ivan Pratt, Connor Bohlen, and Preston Goettlicher of Cleveland. The Pratt brothers finished in 84th place overall and Bohlen and Goettlicher placed 11th overall.

Roxanne “Roxy” Slechta, age 67, of rural Waseca, died on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at her home.
Born on March 28, 1955, in Faribault to Lyle and Marian (Schifflett) Reid. Roxy attended Waterville-Elysian Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1973. She was married to Paul Hruska of Kilkenny. Together they had two children and later divorced. On August 20, 1999, Roxy was united in marriage to Thomas Slechta and together they made their home on the farm in rural Waseca.

Two Gopher Conference victories last week have lifted the WEM volleyball team into the top spots in the league.
The Bucs defeated Hayfield (25-20, 22-25, 25-20, 25-18) Tuesday, Sept. 13 and came-from-behind to defeat Randolph (17-15, 25-27, 25-21, 25-15, and 15-12) Thursday, Sept. 15.
WEM is now 5-4 overall and 3-0 in the conference one of only three undefeated conference teams. Medford and Faribault BA each have a 2-0 record.

Glen Charles Morris, age 89 of Waterville, passed away at his home on the morning of Sunday, September 18, 2022.

Janet Muriel (Wendelschafer) Meyer, 89, of Rochester, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, September 14, 2022.

Heidelberg Community Day had beautiful fall weather on Sunday, Sept. 11, which is why it likely had its largest crowd for the annual celebration. Held in Heidelberg Park the annual celebration in the city six miles southwest of New Prague offered something for everyone. There were inflatable play areas for children, a large assortment of vendors for the whole family and food. There was also a Car Show for car enthusiasts. All proceeds from Heidelberg Community Day go to maintain Heidelberg Park, which is maintained by the Heidelberg Athletic Association.

Ina Mae Fischer, age 90, of Kilkenny, died on Friday, September 9, 2022 at Allina Health Faribault Medical Center.
Ina Mae was born on April 29, 1932, in Cleveland, Minnesota to Charles and Etta (McFadden) Flowers. She received her education at Cleveland Public Schools. Ina Mae was united in marriage to Frank Richard Fischer on January 29, 1948, in Cleveland. Together they made their home on the farm outside of Kilkenny where she lived for the past 60 years. Ina and Frank shared 20 years of marriage before Frank passed away on March 6, 1969.

Geraldyne (Gerri) David (Sheehy), age 85 passed away on August 21, 2022 at Central Health Care Center in Le Center, MN.
Gerri grew up with her parents and siblings on a farm near Waterville where she learned to bake, sew, garden and grow to have a strong faith in God. She graduated from Waterville High School in 1956.
Gerri married Jacob John David on June 14, 1961 at the Church of St. Canice in Kilkenny, MN. On February 22, 1963 they welcomed son Dennis John David to their family.

For the past 11 years, my family has rented a cabin at Boyd Lodge near Cross Lake for one week every summer.
The crew of eight includes: my husband, two daughters, parents, brother, sister-inlaw, and myself.
We’ve been in the same cabin for 10 of the years.
Everyone knows which bed they will be in and how/ where to “properly” store our groceries for the week (and we know to make two batches of Chex mix).

The WEM/JWP boys and girls cross country teams competed Friday, Aug. 26 in the Fairmont Early Bird Meet.
The girls team placed sixth overall with a score of 127. Marshall nearly had a perfect score, finishing with a score of 20 to easily win the meet. Fairmont placed second (85), JCC third (92), St. Peter fourth (115), and Mountain Lake Area- Comfrey (127). Fairmont had the top individual runner and Marshall runners placed second through seventh.
