Marcella H. “Marcie” Hadac, age 97, died peacefully, with her family present on her birthday, April 8, 2019, at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center.  She was born in 1922 in Wheatland Township, Rice County, MN to Ladislav J. “Laddy” and Anna A. (Pavek) Novak.  She grew up in the Veseli area and attended Most Holy Trinity Catholic School.  Due to the depression, she had to leave school at age 14 and worked for local farm families to help with family expenses.  She married Edward M.

Henry Joseph Simon, 84, of Montgomery, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2019, at Mala Strana Health Care in New Prague.
Visitation will be on Friday, April 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Schoenbauer Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be on Saturday, April 13, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with visitation one hour prior at the church. Father Victor Valencia will be officiating. Private family interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the American Heart Association.

Milton W. Jasan, age 85, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2019 after a year-long battle with cancer.
Milton was born on June 13, 1933 in Veseli, MN to Thomas and Mary (Hrabe) Jasan. He was raised in Veseli and attended Most Holy Trinity Catholic School. He then enlisted in the US Navy where he was an ordnanceman.

Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church, west of New Prague, was offering a different take on Easter egg decorating during its Easter for Kids on Saturday, April 6. Children could draw lines on a hard boiled egg as it was spun by a machine. The young artists could then color the egg in dye. Alice M. Cemensky, 93, of Lexington, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Visitation will be on Monday, April 8 from 4-8pm at the Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery. Mass of Christian burial will be on Tuesday, April 9 at 10:30 am with visitation one hour prior at St. Scholastica Catholic Church in Heidelberg. Interment will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery in Lexington. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

New Prague Area Community Education held its annual Daddy & Daughter Dance on Friday, April 5, at the Central Education Campus gym. There were 150 girls that came with their dads or other special person to the enchanted evening themed “I Loved Her First,” where there was dancing, games, crafts, refreshments, photos and glitter. New Prague High School’s spring play will offer a unique insight into how two sisters connect in a production that offers both comedy and drama. The play, “She Kills Monsters” will be performed at the high school auditorium, 221 12th St. NE, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 5, and Saturday, April 6.

This week, once again, this mewspaper has a story on the continuing saga of the Le Sueur County Historical Society.

The New Prague City Council approved four items concerning the 2019 street and utility improvement project at its Monday, April 1, meeting. The council unanimously approved a resolution accepting a bid from GMH Asphalt Corporation of Chaska to do the project. They also unanimously approved an agreement for construction engineering services with Short Elliott Hendrickson (SEH), Inc. Two items with Scott County turning back County Road 37 to the city were approved by a 4-1 vote.

Elko New Market business owners and residents were able to get updates from city representatives during the Elko New Market Chamber of Commerce’s Lunch and Learn, held Tuesday, March 26. Sponsored by Firehouse Grille, the soup and sandwich lunch and meeting was held in the Community Room at the Elko New Market Library.

The New Prague Archery Club wrapped up its season over the weekend participating at the 2019 Minnesota NASP bullseye and 3D state archery tournaments held in Duluth. This year’s tournaments had a total of 1,532 archers from 61 participating schools.

Nancy Elizabeth Matychuk, age 52, of Shakopee, died suddenly at her home on Sunday, March 31, 2019. Nancy was born on December 15, 1966 in Farmington, MN to Wendel and Darlene (Bangtson) Brooks. She grew up in Apple Valley until 5th grade when the family moved to New Prague, where she graduated from high school. She married David S. Matychuk on June 7, 1986 in Burnsville, MN. The joy of Nancy’s life was her best friend and husband and five children whom she home-schooled. Nancy and David were partners in their pursuit of God’s love and grace.

Brewers, Sheila M., age 70 of Montgomery, passed away March 21, 2019. Sheila Marie Brewers, or "Poopsie", as some so fondly called her, was born May 17, 1948 in Marshall, MN. She attended school in Ghent, MN and later pursued her GED. She was happily married to Joseph Brewers on November 10th, 1973. In the late spring of 1984 Sheila packed up her small town life and headed east for “the cities” – Ironically, landing in Montgomery, MN – yet another small town a little over an hour outside the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN).

Walter (Bill) Wagner, age 68, of Hickory Hills, Illinois, died peacefully on Friday, February 1, 2019 in Chicago following a long illness. Bill was born in Chicago on April 5, 1950 to Walter W and Jean (Jernstrom) Wagner. Bill graduated from Benet Academy, Lisle, Illinois in 1968, and graduated with a degree in Political Science from the University of Minnesota in 1972. He married Wanda Terlikowski in Chicago. They lived in Chicago until the time of their divorce in 2004. Bill lived in New Prague, Minnesota from 2005 to 2015, at which time he moved back to Chicago.
