The New Prague girls basketball team continues to improve while still looking for its first win.
Delano edged the Trojans, 59-50, Tuesday, Feb. 16. Holy Family pulled out a 75--68 win Friday, Feb. 19.
New Prague is 0-9 in the Wright County Conference and 0-11 overall. They will play at Waconia Friday, Feb. 26 and at Mound Westonka Tuesday, March 2.

Blumberg, in her fifth year of Girl Scouts, was going to be selling Girl Scout cookies until 5 p.m. in front of the shop owned by her mom, Ginny Blumberg. Taylor had sold more than 100 boxes of cookies at the same spot on Saturday, Feb. 20.

Rud, Donald L. Resident of the Pines of Richfield and long-term Bloomington resident passed away 2/17/2021 at the age of 88 after a three-year struggle with stage 4 Radon related lung cancer. He was born 12/26/1932 In Red Wing, MN to Louie and Marie Rud and was the eldest of their 6 children. Don was raised in Webster, MN and graduated from Northfield High School in 1950.

Sister Kara (Clareen) Hennes, 73 died peacefully on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at Saint Scholastica Convent, St. Cloud, Minn. A private Eucharist of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Benedict’s Monastery on Saturday, February 20, 2021, followed by burial in the monastery cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Benson Funeral Home.

A respected Czech Country supper club has become the latest victim of the COVID-19 pandemic, announcing its permanent closure on Thursday.
The Lakeside Supper Club, located on Lake Pepin on Highway 13/21 between Montgomery and New Prague, has been closed since the initial COVID-19 "stay at home" order in March last year, and will not be re-opening.
In a Facebook post to its patrons, owner George Kukacka and Catering Manager, Jayne Hirdler, made the decision with “heavy hearts and profound sadness” not to re-open.

New Prague Utilities has installed five public charging stations for electric vehicles around the City of New Prague. Two-level II chargers and one-DC fast charger can be found in the Northwest parking lot of Coborn’s. An additional two-level II chargers are located in the South parking lot of City Hall.

At the New Prague City Council’s Tuesday, Feb. 16, electronically held meeting City Administrator Mike Johnson submitted his letter of retirement and resignation from the City of New Prague, which will be effective on Friday, Aug. 20 of this year. With his retirement Johnson will have spent more than 39 years in city management, the last 13 years with the City of New Prague. In his letter he stated that he believed the six month retirement notice will aid the council in its search for a new city administrator. Dr. Thomas (Tom) Borak, age 78, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 25th, 2021 at Medical Center Of The Rockies, Loveland, CO. He was born on August 2nd, 1942 in Minneapolis, MN to Mayme and John Borak of New Prague, MN. He is survived by his loving wife Marie-Louise Borak (Meier), daughter Theresa Cordova, son-in-law Francisco Cordova, grandchildren Emiliano and Eloise Cordova, and sister Helen Anawalt.

Clarence J. Ginter, age 89, of New Prague, died suddenly on February 14, 2021, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee.  Clarence was born on January 30, 1932 in Lexington Township, Le Sueur County, MN to Joseph and Anna (Filipek) Ginter.  He attended school in Montgomery and later married Donna M.

Hunter LeCuyer, a student at St. Wenceslaus School and volunteer at the annual St. Wenceslaus Soup Supper on Monday, Feb. 15, was among those letting people know they had sold out. A total of 316 quarts of soup, which were chicken noodle, vegetable beef and chili, were prepared and were sold off in 90 minutes. This year’s supper began around 3:45 p.m. and was take out only due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Revenue from the soup supper will be split between St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and St. Wenceslaus School. For more see an upcoming print issue of The New Prague Times.

Joan Frances Glisczinski, age 80 of rural Belle Plaine, died on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, February 19, 2021, 11:00 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, New Prague, MN. Burial will follow at St. John the Evangelist Cemetery, Union Hill, MN. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 18, from 4:00 p.m. ~ 8:00 p.m. at the Kolden Funeral Home in Belle Plaine, MN. Visitation will continue Friday morning at the funeral home in Belle Plaine from 8:30 a.m. until about 10:15 a.m.

Members of the New Prague Fire Department were busy cooking up 800 halves of chicken on Friday, Feb. 12, at the Knights of Columbus Hall as part of their annual chicken dinner. Firefighters started cooking at 12:30 p.m. The extra smoke was due to temperatures at -5 degrees Fahrenheit and keeping the cooking area closed up for warmth. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic this year’s dinners were pre-sold and would all be take out meals that would include chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, bread and cake. The department had set up a drive through area for those picking up their meals between 5-7 p.m.
