The Triton baseball team limited the Buccaneer nine to six hits and no runs in a 9-0 win Thursday, April 21 in Waterville.
The Bucs did collect a season-best six hits in the loss, but nine errors allowed Triton to score five unearned runs.
Maverick Herrley and Ethan Greenwald each finished with a pair of hits. Greenwald was 2-for-4 and Herrley was 2-for-3.
Ivan Pratt and Elijah Wetzel also added singles.
Pratt started the game and was charged with the loss, allowing three earned runs on three hits. He walked four and struck out five in three innings.

The cause of the explosion and fire at 35533 211th Ave. Le Center (Montgomery Township) on February 26, 2022, that killed Kailey Mach, 20, has been determined.
According to Le Sueur Co. Sheriff Brett Mason, a leak in the home’s propane line outside of the residence was the cause. Mason said investigators from his office, the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office and other private Fire Cause and Origin Investigators met at the property on April 21 and conducted an in-depth examination of the scene.

Grant Edgar Roemhildt, age 80, of rural Elysian, died on Saturday April 23, 2022, at his home with his son by his side.

WEM students will be putting on their Sunday best Saturday, April 30 for the 2022 Junior/Senior Prom.
This year’s prom will feature the Grand March at 4:30 p.m. in Waterville. The doors will open at 3:30 p.m.
Following the Grand March, busses will leave at 6 p.m. for the Owatonna Country Club. This is where the attendees will have dinner (chicken parmesan or chicken alfredo), followed by the dance.
Students will return to Waterville around 10:30 p.m. The After Prom Party will be held from 11:30 p.m. until 3 a.m. at the Ahlman’s Lady Luck Event Center.

There is a long list of historical people and events in the City of Waterville.
Local artist and historian Jeff Jarvis will be bringing some of these historic events and people to life with an outdoor historic exhibit which will be featured on the outside walls of the Waterville City hall.

My daughter Ellen’s fourth grade class just finished memorizing all 50 states and their capitals. We studied those darn things for weeks, using maps and homemade flashcards.
We’d quiz each other on road trips and while preparing dinner.
What’s the capital of Maine? Alaska? Oklahoma?
Where’s Carson City? Olympia?
For the few she struggled to remember, we made up silly sayings, like: “Sail ‘em (as in Salem) on in to Oregon!” and “Frank had too much KFC in Kentucky, so… Frank fort-ed.”

Le Sueur County Historical Society (LCHS) saw little change to it’s nine-person board after an election was held at the organization’s Annual Meeting on April 19.
Of the five board seats on the ballot, four were filled by incumbents. Those re-elected to the board include: Rich Bennett, Bryce Stenzel, Mike Frederick, and George Luskey.
Board member Lois Mack chose not to run for re-election, and Paul Malchow of Ottawa was elected to fill the seat.

The Office of the Le Sueur County Election Administrator announced on Tuesday that absentee ballots are now available to the public for the May 24, 2022, Congressional District 1 Special Primary Election.
The seat became vacant when incumbent Republican Representative Jim Hagedorn died on February 17, 2022, due to kidney cancer.

The Le Sueur County Board of Commissioners, in accordance with Minnesota Statutes Chapter 375, approved redistricting of the county commissioner districts during their Tuesday, April19 meeting.
The Statute establishes the procedure and requires a process for redistricting based on population figures from the 2020 federal census.
The commissioners districts must be redistricted within 80 days of when the legislature has been redistricted or at least 25 weeks before the state primary election, whichever comes first.

Minnesota Towards Zero Deaths (TZD) is the state’s cornerstone traffic safety program, employing an interdisciplinary approach to reducing traffic crashes, injuries, and deaths on Minnesota roads.
The Le Sueur County group was working with the WEM School District and oth-er school districts in the county before prom. Last week they were in Cleveland and at WEM.
There were four demonstrations which the students went through. The stations included distracted driving, a seat belt convincer, impaired driving, and drunk goggle judgement.

The Whitewater Creek bowling team won the Tuesday Night bowling title and also claimed the overall Hoot Lanes Bowling Championship Friday, April 15.
Whitewater Creek defeated Mixed Nuts, 2,987 to 2,851 to claim the league title.
Jacob Hill led the champions with a 601 series, including a high game of 209. Doug Bauer rolled a 553 series. Nathan Schultz rolled a series of 523, which included a 523 game. Paul Eich (416 series) and Amanda Hermel (403 series) rounded out the top five Whitewater Creek bowlers.

Harriet D. Guentzel, 97, of Rockford, Illinois, formerly of DeKalb and Sycamore, passed away April 10, 2022 in Rockford. She was born in 1924 on the family farm in Waseca County, Minnesota, the daughter of Fred and Esther. She married Otto “Jack” Guentzel in 1947, in Mankato, Minnesota. Harriet and Jack were pen pals during WWII when Jack was a B-17 crew member in the Army Air Corps, stationed in England. They didn’t meet until after the war ended.

Alvin Martin Coon, age 77, of Elysian passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on April 9, 2022.
Born on August 31, 1944, in St. Paul, Minnesota. The son of Thomas and Ellen (Nikl) Coon. He attended Waseca and Waterville public schools. Al furthered his education at Mankato VoTec, graduating in 1969 with a machinist and tool and die degree. On June 15, 1968, he was united in marriage to Doris Cummins at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Elysian. Born to them were four sons: Jason, Jeffrey, Nathan, and Joseph.

Mary Jane (Clemons) Hrdlicka Braziel of Sun City, AZ passed away on April 4, 2022 after a 5-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Mary is survived by her daughter Heidi (Eric) Friese of Peoria, AZ and her son Scott Hrdlicka of Rome, NY; grandchildren Meagan Friese, Matthew Friese (Haley) with one great-grandchild on the way; and Alex Hrdlicka. She is survived by her brother, Gary Clemons (Karen) of Cleveland, MN and her step-niece & nephew Heidi Jo Wells and Eddie Engelby. Her husband, Tony, step-niece Carrie Youngerberg and her nephew Joshua Clemons pre-deceased her.

WEM Little Bucs Preschool, formerly called Kindergarten Connection, is expanding its services this year.
Last year, and many years prior, the preschool classes operated with three classes which were two and one half hours for a half day. Two of the classes were three days each for half a day. The other class was a two-day class designed for younger students.
Because the school district had limited space for the 3, 4 and 5-yearolds, there was only room for a certain amount of students and class days/ times.

Six members of the Waterville-Elysian- Morristown High School Speech Team will advance to the Sections Speech Tournament after earning high placements at the March 29 Sub-Section competition.
The team placed 5th out of nine teams at Sub-Sections.
