The WEM basbeall team will host Blue Earth Area Friday at 5 p.m June 1. at William J. Grose Field in the Section 2AA loser's bracket quarterfinals. Blue Earth Area was defeated by St. Peter on Thursday. The loser of the game between the Bucs is eliminated. The winner will face Tri City United at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 2 at 1:30 p.m. St. Peter and Jordan also play Friday in the winner's bracket semifinals. The winner will play at Waterville at 11 a.m. against Belle Plaine. The loser will face Le Sueur-Henderson at 4 p.m. in Waterville.

After failing to resolve issues and determine who is a member, the lawsuit against Le Sueur County Historical Society (LCHS) heads to court on June 4.
 
Kevin Wetherille, one of the attorneys for the 16 plaintiffs who claim to be members and asked a judge on February 21 to require LCHS to grant them access to financial and governance documents, and for a fair election, said they are still running into barriers.
 
One of the barriers is the membership list.

Iszabela Kalis, daughter of Jacob and Leslie Lee, was crowned Miss Morristown 2018 during the Wednesday night, May 30, pageant. Her royal court includes: First princess Alexis Morsching, second princess Heather Thompson, and third princess Ellenor Whitney.
Mackenzie Chavie, daughter of Curtis Chavie, was crowned Little Miss Morristown. Her royal court includes princesses Nora Boese and Payton Gainor.

The WEM baseball team was defeated 5-0 by Jordan Wednesday, May 30 in the Section 2AA quarterfinals. The Bucs will now play Friday, not Thursday, as it was previously reported. WEM's opponent wil be either No. 1 seed St. Peter or No. 9 seed Blue Earth Area. These two teams have been rained out on Tuesday, May 29 and Wednesday, May 30. They are scheduled to play Thursday, May 31. If St. Peter wins, WEM will host Blue Earth Area Friday in Waterville. If Blue Earth Area wins, WEM would play at St. Peter Friday. Times for the Friday games have not yet been determined.

When your child invites the neighborhood over for brunch, you have two options.
You could refuse. Crush her plans and have her renege the already delivered invitations.
Or... Just go with it.
Last Saturday morning, my house was filled with friends and neighbors.
Having the brunch inside was not the plan, but the morning proved too cool to hold the event in the garage and / or on the driveway. So, we cleaned and set up tables and rearranged a few things to make room indoors.

A number of WEM track and field athletes will continue their seasons after advancing to the Section 2A Championships Saturday, June 2 at Mankato West. Toryn Richards won the 200-meter dash, the high jump and the pole vault at the Sub-Section 6 Champoionships Thursday, May 25. MaeLea Harmon won the 100-meter dash and the long jump. Richards, Harmon, Alexis Morsching, and Shelby Hermel advanced in the 4 x 100-meter relay after placing first at Sub-Sections. Alexia Cates also advanced in the 300-meter low hurdles.

The WEM softball team won its opening two games in the Section 1A Playoffs last week before dropping their final two games in Austin. WEM was defeated 8-0 by Hayfield in the West Sub-Section Championship game Thursday, May 24. Following the loss, the Bucs faced Faribault BA for the second time in the playoffs and were defeated by the Cardinals, 8-4. WEM finishes its 2018 season with a 12-6 record. Megan Adank, Hailie Tegmeier, Maddy Meskan, and Nicole Nuetzman played their final games Thursday. For more on the playoffs check out the May 31 edition of the LIFE/Enterprise.

The WEM baseball team started their Section 2AA Quarterfinal game with Jordan Tuesday evening, but were unable to finish it because of inclement weather. The two teams were tied at 0-0 in the top half of the third when the game was suspended. The Bucs and Jaguars will resume action Wednesday, May 30 at 5 p.m. in Jordan. Win or lose the Bucs will play Thursday, May 31 either at Waterville against Blue Earth Area or at St. Peter at 5 p.m. WEM opened the playoffs with a 10-3 win over GFW Thursday, May 24.

Ruth a Dahl, age 91 of Waterville passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at her home.

Born on January 23, 1927 in Elysian Township, Le Sueur County, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Edgar and Adelia (Roemhildt) Morsching.  Ruth was married to Ray Jahn and she later married Ernie Dahl.

The WEM baseball team opened Section 2AA Playoff action Thursday, May 24 with a 10-3 win over Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop. Bladyn Bartelt and Jayson Schneider each had three hits. Grant McBroom and Micheal Ungs had two hits. Bartelt pitched the first 5 1/2 innings and was awarded the win. Schneider pitched a scoreless 1 2/3 innings. The Bucs, the No. 5 seed, will play at 5 p.m., Tuesday, May 29 against Jordan, the No. 4 seed.  The game will be played at the Jordan Mini Met.

The WEM girls track and field team claimed four first place finishes at the 2018 Gopher Conference Meet Tuesday, May 15. Junior MaeLea Harmon won the 100-meter dash (12.26) and the long jump (17-feet, 5 3/4-inches). Freshman Toryn Richards won the pole vault (9-feet, 6-inches). The 4 x 100-meter relay team also claimed a title, with Harmon, Alexis Morsching, Shelby Hermel, and Richards teaming to win the race in 52.58. WEM finished tied for third with 119 points. Maple River claimed the team championship with 171.5 points.

WEM senior Taylor Glende and sophomore Jaden Taylor each claimed individual titles at the Gopher Conference Meet Tuesday, May 15. Glende won the long jump title with a distance of 20-feet, 1 1/2 inches. Taylor won the pole vault title by clearing 12-feet. Two days later Taylor set a new Buccaneer pole vault record when he cleared 13-feet at Waseca. Also winning a conference championship was the 4 x 100-meter relay team of Glende, Chris Byrne, Tanner Ranslow, and Tyler Hermel in a time of 45.89. WEM finished fourth with 100 points. NRHEG won the boy's title with 231.5 points.

The WEM softball team defeated United South Central 10-0 in six innings Monday, May 21 and Faribault BA 5-3 Tuesday, May 22 in Section 1A, West Sub-Section Playoff action. WEM, the No. 2 seed in the West Sub-Section, will play No. 1 seed Hayfield in the Sub-Section Championship at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 24 at Austin's Todd Park. If the Bucs defeat Hayfield, they will not play again until Tuesday, May 29 at 5 p.m., also in Austin. If they lose to Hayfield, they will play an elimination game Thursday against the Blooming Prairie vs. Faribault BA winner at 6:30 p.m. in Austin.

A total of 44 seniors will graduate Friday, May 25 at WEM High School. Emily Stiernagle is the valedictorian and Elijah Bass is the salutatorian. A total of 19 students were named honor students. Despite losing to Maple River 6-2 Thursday, May 17, the WEM baseball team clinched a tie for the Gopher Conference Championship with only one loss in conference play. The Bucs, 10-4 overall, tied with Maple River for the title with a 5-1 record. It was the fourth straight title for the Bucs. WEM is the No. 5 seed in the Section 2AA Tournament and will host No. 12 seed Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop Thursday, May 24 at 5 p.m. in Waterville. If they win, they would play Tuesday, May 29 against either Jordan or Kenyon-Wanamingo.
