The Class A No. 1 rated WEM Buccaneer volleyball team won three more matches last week to imrpoive to 12-0 this season. The Bucs have won 24 straight games, including sweeps of Tri City United, Maple River, and St. Peter last week. WEM will compete in the Class A Showcase Tourney this weekend whiich will feature eight of the top 12 teams in Class A. The tourney will be Friday, Sept. 21 and Saturday, Sept. 22 in Burnsville. Roger W. Ebert, age 80 of Kilkenny died on Monday, September 17, 2018 at his home.
More than 200 households were served during the Thursday, Sept. 13 Tri County Solid Waste Household Disposal event held in Waterville. Nine boxes of latex paint, two boxes of aerosols, six boxes of oil, 3,800 pounds of farm chemicals, and more than 800 light bulbs were among the items collected. WEM junior Jaden Taylor carried the ball eight times for 219 yards and five touchdowns Firday, Sept in a 56-12 Buccaneer win. Brant Melchert scored two rushing touchdowns and Wyatt Storch added another for the Bucs, who rushed for 411 yards and eight touchdowns. Virginia D. Dehn, age 91 of Waterville died on Monday, September 17, 2018 at Traditions in Waterville.
The North Waseca Lutheran Church congregation will celebrate 160 years of worship this Sunday, Sept. 23, with a special service at 10 a.m., various activities, and a noon meal.
The event commemorates the crisp and windy, autumn day in 1858 when a group of 23 Norwegian settlers met on a hill top with a minister from western Wisconsin to form a new congregation on the edge of the prairie.
According to current congregation member Dan Forrest, the pioneers were relatively new to Blooming Grove and Iosco Townships at the time.
The case against Le Sueur County Historical Society (LCHS) will get a green light or a red light in October after a Le Sueur County judge clarified matters on Monday, Sept. 17.
In court were Ray Konz, attorney for LCHS, and Kevin Wetherille, attorney for the 16 plaintiffs. The attorneys discussed the proceedings thus far and made several requests of Judge Mark Vandelist.
Gordon A. Smith, age 90, of Faribault, died on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Homestead Hospice, Owatonna.
Memorial services will be held at Grace Baptist Church, Owatonna, on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 10 a.m. with the Reverend David Levy officiating. Interment and military rites will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Memorial visitation will be at the church for one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Dorothy L. Bittner, age 95, of Elysian died September 7, 2018, at BridgeWater in Janesville.
Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. on Friday, September 14, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville with Rev. Larry Griffin and Rev. Paul Muther officiating. Interment will follow in the Janesville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 – 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church’s Discipling Center in Janesville and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church’s Discipling Center.
Whether it was the luck of the Irish or event coordinator Janice Sneller's prayers for good weather, Mother Nature smiles on the Irish in Kilkenny on Saturday, September 8 during the city's Halfway to St. Patty's Celebration. A large crowd flocked to the community to enjoy a day full of music, good food, a parade, a car show, and shamrock-filled fun.

The No. 1 rated WEM volleyball team snapped a Faribault BA 137 Gopher Conference match winning streak on Thursday, Sept. 6 in Waterville. The Buccaneers defeated the Cardinals 22-25, 25-20, 25-14, and 25-21 ending a streak that has lasted nearly 19 years. The last loss in conference play by Faribault BA was October 14, 1999, when they were defeated by Blooming Prairie. Since then, the Cardinals have won 18 straight conference titles. Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Buccaneers returned to the high school and middle school on Tuesday, Sept. 4. The students received the traditional warm welcome with teachers and staff members cheering for them as they made their walk down the Buccaneer-green carpet and into school. The younger Buccaneers will return to class on Wednesday, Sept. 5.
Eleanore M. Schauer, 91 of Arlington, died on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society in Arlington, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, September 3, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Arlington, MN. Visitation will be at the Kolden Funeral Home in Arlington on Monday from noon until 1:45 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery followed by lunch at the church social hall. Fr. Aaron Johanneck will officiate the services.
Roland “Swede” Robert Quast, age 94 of Morristown died on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault.
The start to what is expected to be an outstanding season for the No. 1 rated WEM volleyball team was just that...outstanding. The Bucs swept Triton, 25-16, 25-11, and 25-20 in the team's opening match Tuesday, Aug. 28 in Waterville. Thursday, Aug. 30 the Bucs will travel to Kenyon to face Class AA No. 5 rated Kenyon-Wanamingo. The 50th annual Shooter's Roundup in North Morristown was attended by thousands of individuals Saturday, Aug. 25 and Sunday, Aug. 26. There were trick shooting shows, shopping opportunities, food opportunties, and of course, gun shooting throughout the weekend.
