Home Run Derby is Saturday

Adeline Tiede

Hometown Bats will hold its Sixth annual Home Run Derby, beginning at 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, at Union Hill Ballpark, west of New Prague on Highway 19. The family-friendly event offers children’s games, food and drinks. It brings batters from DRS (Dakota, Rice, Scott) Baseball together to slam in as many homers and raise funds for an area family. This year’s Home Run Derby benefits Adeline Tiede, daughter of Jeremy Tiede and Jessica Lambrecht OF Le Center. Adeline, age 3, has two older sisters Mayta (12) and Lucy (6).

Adeline was diagnosed with Tricuspid Atresia, also known as Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome (HRHS). The condition is when one of the chambers on the right side of the heart has not developed. Doctors knew she had a significant heart defect at her 20-week ultrasound and her parents were referred to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Since Adeline was born in March 2019, she and her family have been dealing with medical issues. In her first year she had her first open-chest heart surgery and spent the next five months at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. She developed multiple post-surgery complications, including when part of her intestines died. Other complications came from catching Influenza A after her surgery, which required Adeline to be put on an ECMO, a life support machine, so her heart could rest. She had her next open-heart surgery in May 2020 and received a new mitral valve in her heart to help promote good blood flow. Adeline is working on getting stronger and gaining weight to help prepare for more treatments. Another heart surgery is anticipated for the summer or fall of this year.
