Kilkenny sends representatives to Ireland

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Kilkenny, Minnesota’s formal twinning with Kilkenny, Ireland, representatives from the local Kilkenny are traveling to Ireland and will take part in the St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations.

According to Kilkenny, Minnesota council member Julie Balfe, who will be part of the Ireland-bound contingent representing the city, the trip will commemorate the twinning and will help highlight historical and ancestral roots.

“We’re taking names with us of people who want to start a pen pal program, along with names from headstones in the Calvary Cemetery, to research the ancestry of our founders,” Balfe stated.

Kilkenny, Minnesota’s Mayor Pro Tem Tammy Holicky, Firefighter Dusty Balfe, Halfway to St. Paddy’s Day volunteer Paula Smith, and Balfe left for Ireland on March 15.
