One relay and two individuals advance to State Buccaneers placed 3rd in Section 2A Track and Field Meet

After the Section 2A Track and Field Meet, WEM head girls coach Mike Richards summed up his participants performance in one statement, “All the athletes that competed had a good day,”

Actually it was a very good day for the Buccaneer girls, having a relay advance to State and two individuals also advance in leading WEM to a top spot in the Section standings.

The State entry efforts, along with a number of other placewinning performances, helped the Buccaneers place third in the Section 2A Meet with 45 points. Jackson County Central claimed the title with 108.5 points. Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial placed second with 72 points. Sibley East finished fourth (44), Blue Earth Area and Minnesota Valley Lutheran tied for fifth (43), and JWP placed seventh (40).

The 4 x 100-meter relay team of Riley Sammon, Madison Zimbrich, McKenna Schuster, and Addison Condon won the event in 52.23. They have only been defeated in this race one time this year.

Condon continued her outstanding season by winning the long jump with a distance of 15-feet, 10 1/2-inches. She also came within an eyelash of advancing to State in the 100-meter dash, placing third in a time of 13.53, which was one tenth of a second behind JWP freshman Lilly Strauss.
