Grizzlies move into second place in conference

Two wins in the Gopher Conference last week has moved the WEM/JWP wrestling team into second place.
The Grizzlies edged previously undefeated Maple River/United South Central, 32-31, Friday, Jan. 17 in Janesville. They traveled to Medford Thursday, Jan. 23 and returned with a 42-29 win over the Tigers.
WEM/JWP is now 3-1 in the Gopher Conference and 10-6 overall. They trail Kenyon-Wanamingo in the conference and have two duals left against NRHEG and Triton.
In the win over Maple River/USC, the Grizzlies won one less match but used bonus points in those victories to claim the win.
Three falls, a technical fall, a forfeit, and a decision accounted for the 32 points.
Brenden Masso (114) pinned Troy Hollister in 1:28. Brady Murphy (133) pinned Jace Ignaszewski in 2:18. Keegan Kuball (220) pinned Dizel Butler in 43 seconds. Trey Richards (121) won by technical fall over Riley Sparks in 4:31.
The match was clinched with WEM/JWP winning the last three bouts. Down 31- 17, Avery Fall (189) picked up a 5-0 decision over Max Fuller. Kuball moved down to 220 pounds and picked up the pin. Kavan Sheehy (285) moved up to heavyweight and received a forfeit.
In the win over the Tigers, the Grizzlies held a 7 to 6 wins advantage. All seven wins were worth six points.
In another marquee matchup, Kuball, ranked No. 1 at 285 pounds in Class A, pinned No. 3 ranked Mason DeGrood in 1:48 at 285 pounds.
